Films: About Screenwriting

"What amuses me is that they pay a million dollars for a script, then put another writer on to rewrite it." -- Julius Epstein

My education in screenwriting was influenced by two sort of schools: the American and the European. The American school was the Graduate Screenwriting Program at USC's School of Cinema and Television in Los Angeles, then headed by the late Frank Daniel. And my European education was conducted by two Poles: Krzysztof Kieslowski and Edward Zebrowski. Since all three were (and still are: Edward Zebrowski still teaches and works in Poland) from Eastern Europe, you can imagine that their methods weren't that different.

Anyway, their school lead me to write some scripts that got made and a lot of scripts that didn't. Here are the ones that got produced:

  • 1989: "Tatort: Howalds Fall" (Howald's Case)
    Feature, 90 min.
    Original Screenplay co-writer: Alex Martin,
directed by Urs Egger, a Swiss Television Production

  • 1995: "Unser Charly" (Our Charly)
Pilot 90 min. and four episodes, 45 min. each
Co-written and directed by Helmut Förnbacher, produced by Phoenix in Berlin for ZDF

  • 1998: "Tatort: Russisches Roulette" (Russian Roulette)
    Feature, 90 min.
Directed by Walter Weber, produced by Carac Film in Berne for Swiss Television

  • 1999: "Seefeld" (Seefeld)
25 min. Trailer for a Series
Co-written and directed by Sabine Harbeke, produced by Ronin Entertainment , London for TV3

Currently I'm working on a feature.
